During his PhD at the TU Berlin (2006-2010) he evaluated the removal of pharmaceuticals in large scale wastewater treatment plants. Since 2009, he works at KWB with focus on advanced wastewater treatment such as pharmaceutical removal, phosphorus removal, disinfection, ozonation and water reuse. Since 2015 he is responsible for the department of “Process Innovation”, including topics such as nutrient recovery, sludge management and energy positive wastewater plants. Since April 2016 he is chairman of the working group on ”Ozonation at municipal wastewater treatment plants” of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste.
Maria Nikolopoulou
Environmental Engineer | EYDAP S.A, Greece.
Presentation: Master plan of water reuse schemes and challenges in the Eastern Attica Region, Greece..
Maria Nikolopoulou has a Diploma in Environmental Engineering from Technical University of Crete (TUC), an MSc in Environmental and Sanitary Engineering (TUC) and a PhD in Environmental Engineering from the School of Environmental Engineering at TUC. She started working at TUC as a researcher in 2005, and her work mainly focused on the biodegradation of crude oil in the marine environment and the development of environmentally friendly mitigation techniques (FP-7 PROJECT No. 266473 ULIXES and FP7 Project Kill.Spill). From 2016 to 2020 she worked as an environmental engineer at Public Power Corporation Renewables S.A. focusing on the implementation of environmental impact assessments for wind parks (WP), licensing for new WPs, directing, constructing and organizing decommissioning and repowering of 11 WPs. Since 2020, she is working at Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP S.A.) supervising and monitoring the execution of contracts for wastewater projects, environmental licensing and approval while assuring compliance with EU Environmental legislation on the UWT Directive, WF Directive including Wastewater Reuse and Management. She is cooperating with the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) on the monitoring of research programs for the operation of three WWTPs (Koropi-Rafina-Marathonas) and co-supervising the provision of consulting services, comprehensive feasibility study for a sustainable water reuse scheme in Eastern Attica.
