Aiguaneix – A Potable Reuse Demo Plant operational since January 2025 in Costa Brava
Spain launched apotable reuse demonstration plant in Costa Brava. Officially operational since January 2025, the facility—developed by the Consorci d’Aigües Costa Brava Girona and Diputació de Girona under the AIGUANEIX project—is located at the Roses wastewater treatment plant.
The plant uses a robust multi-barrier treatment system, including ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, UV disinfection, and advanced oxidation processes (UV AOP), powered by Water REuse Europe member Trojan Technologies. Its goal is to safely convert treated wastewater into high-quality drinking water and support aquifer recharge efforts.
This pilot project is expected to inform the development of a full-scale potable reuse system by 2027, marking a major milestone for water reuse innovation in Europe.
