CWA urges car wash operators to install water recycling systems

The UK Car Wash Association (CWA) has urged operators to install water recycling systems to lower costs and environmental impact.
Alexander Russell, consultant for the CWA, made a statement on installing water reuse systems in car washes.
“An environmentally unregulated hand car wash will use 300 to 360 litres of water per wash through two high-pressure lances operating simultaneously for about 10 minutes per wash,” he said as part of his statement.
Many automatic washes have already made the switch, which depending on the equipment can recycle up to 95% of the water. The cost of water for a car wash is upwards of £20,000 a year in the UK, whereas a recycling system costs between £8,000 and £10,000, making the systems worthwhile investment.
