The Almería Provincial Council hosted a presentation of the LIFE Phoenix project, an international initiative led by Aqualia. The project is investigating new methods of wastewater treatment for agricultural reuse.

The LIFE Phoenix project, part of the European LIFE programme, is an international collaboration with partners such as Aguas de Portugal and the Dutch company MicroLAN; Spanish public entities such as the Diputación de Almería, the University of Almería and the Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation, as well as national partners such as CETIM, Newland EnTech and Aqualia itself, which is leading the study.

The project will create several demonstration plants which will allow development of customised solutions based on the water in the area and the population. The plants will be transportable, allowing tests in various locations in Spain, starting in the province of Almería.
