We are delighted to welcome HZ University of Applied Sciences as a new member of Water Reuse Europe.
HZ University of Applied Sciences (HZ) is a Dutch university, located in Vlissingen and Middelburg, in the South-western Delta of the Netherlands. It is nationally acclaimed for its high quality programmes, modern facilities and international atmosphere. With 5000 students, divided over some 25 bachelor degree programmes, it is a small university with a personal approach. Lecturers and supporting staff put great emphasis on individual coaching.
HZ focuses on practical-based education and research opportunities and has positioned itself as an expert in energy, vitality and water. Within the water theme, HZ focuses on challenges of coastal and delta water systems, which are not only technical in nature, but also social, administrative and economic.
They have a number of unique water related BSc and MSc programmes for our students to choose from; BSc Aquatic Ecotechnology, Civil Engineering, Delta Management and Spatial Planning and Design and the MSc River Delta Development. In addition we have four water related research groups: Water Technology, Building with Nature, Resilient Deltas and Aquaculture in Delta Areas.
Water Technology research focuses on water quality, water availability for industry, agriculture and nature and water (re)use efficiency. The HZ’s technological research capabilities are complemented by a strong expertise in defining and effectively addressing the needs and values of different stakeholders. This approach can significantly increase the degree of acceptance and the added value of new technologies.
Furthermore, in the spring of 2023, the Joint Research Center Zeeland will open its doors, next to the HZ in Middelburg. It’s a brand new, state of the art research institute where students, lecturers, researchers and the professional field collaborate to contribute to innovative and sustainable technical solutions for societal challenges. These solutions will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals, which are at the heart of our research and education.
A warm welcome to HZ University of Applied Sciences! We look forward to working with you!
