The Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID) is a partnership of three water regulators: Ofwat, the Environment Agency and the Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI).

RAPID provides advice and recommendations on the development of strategic water resource solutions to the partner regulators and had published a consultation recently. The consultation builds on their 2021 consultations on the regulatory and commercial frameworks required to support the development of those strategic water resource solutions.

In support of the consultation, RAPID published the first in a series of case studies submitted by water companies. The case study focuses on Southern Water’s Hampshire Water Transfer and Water Recycling Project. Using advanced treatment techniques, the project will provide an additional 90 million litres of water a day from Havant Thicket reservoir in the event of a drought.
