Soitec to Increase Wastewater Reuse at Bernin Site
French semi-conductor material supplier Soitec has announced that they have installed a water recycling system that enables wafer rinse water to be partially reused in the production of pure water at its manufacturing units in Bernin, France.
There are large volumes of wastewater generated by the semiconductor-manufacturing process and Soitec, has in the recent years, optimised its processes to reduce water consumption per unit of production and increase the volume of water reused. Soitec also announced that it has reduced their water consumption per unit produced by 30% between 2021 and 2023 and aims to further reduce 30% by 2030 and plans to increase wastewater reuse, from 19% in 2023 to over 35% in 2024.
Speaking at a press conference during the inauguration of Soitec’s Bernin 4 wafer fab last year, Soitec COO Cyril Menon said, “We are determined to continue our industrial development with limited [water] resources. Access to water is an important issue today and will be even more so in the years to come. We want to pursue growth while reducing our consumption of natural resources.”
