Vendée looks into water reuse to secure its drinking water supply

Vendée Eau, a WRE member, is experimenting with water reuse to help relieve the region’s water stress.
Vendée’s water supply is 90% surface resources. The summer can cause great water stress, due to large numbers of tourists during time when rainfall is scarce. Vendée Eau know that there will be years in the future when the supply will not recover. As a first for France, the region is looking into water reuse.
A pilot scheme will take place to reuse wastewater treatment discharge, rather than discharging it into the sea. Construction will begin in 2021, with a year of construction and a year of evaluation. The discharge will go into the Jaunay reservoir, where the water can be drawn and treated for drinking water supply.
