Water reuse for food processing: Westfro NV and Ekopak show how to do it!

The frozen vegetable company Westfro NV in Staden, Belgium needs about 3 million litres of drinking water a day at peak times for food processing. This is the equivalent of an Olympic-sized swimming pool. In collaboration with Ekopak, a new water reuse process ( WaaS installation (water-as-a-service)) has been installed on the company premises and now purifies 25,000 liters per hour and they only need a fraction of it.
Frederik Debeuckelaere, Plant Manager at Westro explains that “With this installation, we can actually reuse our water to the maximum. Our own waste water is converted back into drinking water. We need that water to wash and blanch our vegetables“.
